Course Sequence Goal
- By the end of 6th grade, students will score in the Novice High range according to the Kentucky Standard of World Language Proficiency.
- By the end of 7th grade, students will score in the Novice High to Intermediate Low range according to the Kentucky Standard of World Language Proficiency.
- By the end of 8th grade, students will score in the Intermediate Low to Intermediate Mid range according to the Kentucky Standard of World Language Proficiency.
NOTE: Students must earn a B or higher in each course in order to earn a Spanish I and Spanish II credit for high school. Students will be required to take the STAMP test to determine their proficiency level.
Sixth Grade Course Description: Accelerated 6th Grade Spanish
Course Description
Intermediate/Advanced Spanish is a three year sequence of courses. It is designed for students who have successfully completed an elementary Spanish immersion program; who regularly speak Spanish at home with their families; or have had some exposure to Spanish through elementary specials and qualify for accelerated language arts classes.
The 6th grade course is equivalent to the first part of high school Spanish level one. All four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) are introduced and developed at a novice (beginning) level. The language and culture are introduced and practiced in the context of themes which are familiar to students in this age group.
This course is 36-weeks in length.

Every learner will use a world language, in addition to English, to engage in meaningful, intercultural communication, understand and interpret the spoken and written language, and present information, concepts and ideas in local and global communities. Through learning the language, learners will connect with other disciplines and gain an understanding of the perspectives of other cultures and compare the languages and cultures learned with their own.

Seventh Grade Course Description: Accelerated 7th Grade Spanish
Course Description
Intermediate/Advanced Spanish is a three year sequence of courses. It is designed for students who have successfully completed an elementary Spanish immersion program; who regularly speak Spanish at home with their families; or have had some exposure to Spanish through elementary specials and qualify for accelerated language arts classes.
The 7th grade course is equivalent to the second part of high school Spanish level one. The content from 6th grade is reviewed, vocabulary is expanded, and proficiency level increased.
This course is 36-weeks in length.

Eighth Grade Course Description: Accelerated 8th Grade Spanish
Course Description
Intermediate/Advanced Spanish is a three year sequence of courses. It is designed for students who have successfully completed an elementary Spanish immersion program; who regularly speak Spanish at home with their families; or have had some exposure to Spanish through elementary specials and qualify for accelerated language arts classes.
The 8th grade course, which is equivalent to high school level two, begins with a review of the basics learned in level one. From there, many of the same themes (from level one) are explored, but the language used is at a higher level of proficiency. Students will expand their vocabulary and improve proficiency in all four language skills.
This course is 36-weeks in length.
