Course Sequence Goal
- By the end of the 6th grade 9 week course, students will perform at the Novice Low level according to the Kentucky Standard of World Language Proficiency. They will have a general idea of where Spanish is spoken, and will be able to use some memorized words and phrases for simple conversations.
- By the end of 7th grade, students will score in the Novice Mid to Novice High range according to the Kentucky Standard of World Language Proficiency.
- By the end of 8th grade, students will score in the Novice High range according to the Kentucky Standard of World Language Proficiency. Students may be prepared to enroll in High School Spanish 2.
NOTE: Students must earn a B or higer in each course in order to receive high school credit for Spanish I. Students will be required to take the STAMP test to determine proficiency level.
Sixth Grade Course Description: Introduction to Spanish
Course Description
The nine week 6th grade class is an exploratory course in which the students will learn some basics of the language, such as: greetings & simple conversational expressions, the alphabet, numbers, calendar information, items in the classroom/school supplies, words to describe family, foods, and a plethora of information about the culture of the Spanish speaking world.
This class is nine weeks in lenght.

Every learner will use a world language, in addition to English, to engage in meaningful, intercultural communication, understand and interpret the spoken and written language, and present information, concepts and ideas in local and global communities. Through learning the language, learners will connect with other disciplines and gain an understanding of the perspectives of other cultures and compare the languages and cultures learned with their own.

Seventh Grade Course Description: Spanish I Part I
Course Description
The 7th grade course is equivalent to the first part of high school Spanish level one. All four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) are introduced and developed at a novice (beginning) level. The language and culture are introduced and practiced in the context of themes which are familiar to students in this age group.
This course is 36-weeks in length.

Course Description
The 8th grade course is equivalent to the second part of high school Spanish level one. The content from 7th grade is reviewed, vocabulary is expanded, and proficiency level increased.
This course is 36-weeks in length.
