Edythe J. Hayes Middle School Named 2026 National Schools to Watch School

Edythe J. Hayes Middle School has officially been selected as a 2026 National Schools to Watch school, a prestigious national recognition that highlights exemplary middle schools across the country.

Following a comprehensive review process conducted by the National Schools to Watch team on February 18, Hayes was recognized for its commitment to academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and strong organizational structures. Schools earning this designation demonstrate high levels of student achievement while intentionally creating supportive, engaging, and inclusive learning environments.

As a National Schools to Watch school, Hayes will now serve as a model for middle schools nationwide, showcasing effective practices that promote continuous improvement and vibrant learning experiences for students.

“This recognition reflects the collective commitment of our entire Panther community,” said Principal Phil Hyde. “Our students rise to high expectations, our staff leads with passion and purpose, and our families are true partners in this work. Being named a National Schools to Watch school affirms that the systems, relationships, and culture we have built together are making a meaningful difference for kids.”

The designation underscores the intentional work taking place at Hayes — from strong instructional practices and data-driven decision making to student leadership opportunities and a culture grounded in belonging and high expectations.

The Hayes community celebrates this milestone with pride and gratitude, recognizing that this achievement is the result of sustained collaboration among students, staff, and families.

Edythe J. Hayes Middle School is honored to represent Fayette County Public Schools as a 2026 National Schools to Watch school and remains committed to continuous growth and excellence for every student.
