Hayes 8th Graders Honored at DAR Youth Awards for Citizenship Contest Achievements

Edythe J. Hayes Middle School is proud to recognize a group of outstanding 8th grade students who were honored at the DAR Youth Awards this past weekend for their exceptional work in the JAC Citizenship Contest. This year’s contest celebrated America’s upcoming 250th birthday, challenging students to showcase their creativity and understanding of citizenship through a variety of formats.

Hayes students excelled at both the state and regional levels, earning top honors across multiple categories:

  • Grace Warren earned 1st Place in the State for Stamp Design.

  • Emma Bradley earned 1st Place in the State for Poster.

  • Lucas Winslow earned 1st Place in the State and 2nd Place in the East Central Regional Division for Poetry.

  • Sarah New earned 1st Place in the State, 1st Place in the East Central Regional Division, and 2nd Place at the National level for her Photo Essay.

  • Hannah Varo earned 3rd Place in the State for Short Story.

These recognitions highlight not only the artistic and academic talents of our students, but also their ability to thoughtfully reflect on the meaning of citizenship and the history of our nation.

“We are incredibly proud of how our students represented Hayes through their creativity, critical thinking, and commitment to excellence,” said Ms. Deener, 8th grade social studies teacher. “Their success is a reflection of their hard work and the support of our dedicated school community.”

Edythe J. Hayes Middle School congratulates these students on their impressive accomplishments and looks forward to seeing their continued success in high school and beyond.
