Hayes Students to Host Dance Marathon Supporting UK DanceBlue - May 1

Hayes Students to Host Dance Marathon Supporting UK DanceBlue - May 1

Edythe J. Hayes Middle School students will once again turn energy into impact as they prepare to host their annual Hayes DanceBlue event on Friday, May 1, from 5:00–10:00 p.m. in the Hayes gym. Students can register here.

In partnership with students from the University of Kentucky, Hayes students will participate in a five-hour dance marathon to raise funds for children battling pediatric cancer through UK DanceBlue.

The cost to participate in the Friday night marathon is $50 per student, and 100% of that registration fee goes directly to UK DanceBlue to support pediatric oncology patients and their families. Students are also encouraged to share their individual fundraising links with family and friends to expand their impact beyond the event itself.

Hayes has a long-standing tradition of supporting this cause.

  • Last year alone, Hayes raised more than $17,000.
  • Over the past 12 years, Hayes students have contributed more than $100,000 to the fight against pediatric cancer.

The DanceBlue marathon will include more than just dancing. Throughout the evening, students will participate in games, face painting, t-shirt signing, photo opportunities, and will be provided dinner as they celebrate and raise awareness together.

Spirit activities will lead up to the event:

  • Wednesday, March 4: $1 Hat Day fundraiser
  • Friday during the school day: Students are encouraged to wear neon to “Shine the Light on a Cure.”
  • Friday evening at the event: Participants should wear blue and yellow — the official DanceBlue colors — and bring a plain white t-shirt to decorate and sign.

Hayes DanceBlue is more than a school event; it is a student-led commitment to service, leadership, and compassion. Each year, Panthers demonstrate that when a community rallies around a cause, meaningful change happens.

Families can find the registration link in the comments section of the school’s social media announcement.

Together, Hayes students continue to dance for those who can’t — and to shine a light on hope for children and families facing pediatric cancer.

Donations to the EJH DanceBlue Mini-Marathon can be made here.
